Brøndby Cooking School is located at Kulturhuset Brønden and offers courses on everything from Moroccan and Pakistani cuisine to bread baking, fish, legumes, and healthy everyday meals.
The Longest Table aims to engage 10% of Brøndby’s residents in adopting new eating habits in just two years—and, as with the other initiatives in the project, it is Brøndby’s own residents, institutions, and businesses that set the direction and create the content. That’s why the classes are taught by local Brøndby residents with culinary talent, who receive training and support from Meyers Madhus. Generous sponsors ensure that the cost can be kept low enough for the cooking classes to appeal to a wide audience.
“We believe that food has a special power, especially when we make it together. Brøndby Madskole aims to encourage people to get into the kitchen, discover new flavors, and share meals with one another,” says Emma Lykke, café manager at Café Brønden & Bønne, adding:“We cook together, eat together—and yes, clean up together. It’s just as much a community as it is a kitchen.”
Food Education at Eye Level
No prior experience is required to participate in the cooking school’s classes—just a desire to join in. Each class lasts three hours and concludes with a shared meal. Participants take home recipes and techniques so they can recreate the meal at their own kitchen table. The cooking school aims not only to inspire people to cook, but also to eat better and more sustainably in their daily lives.
Through curiosity, taste, and practical culinary skills, participants are equipped to make sustainable choices and rediscover the joy of home-cooked meals.
The classes begin on March 9 with “Green Everyday Meals” and continue through June. After that, the cooking school will return for a new season in the fall.
“It is deeply rooted in Brøndby’s spirit to engage neighbors, organizations, and businesses in creating something we can share and be proud of. When we cook and eat together, we don’t just learn more about each other’s cuisines—we build stronger communities and a healthier future. I’m delighted that Madskolen can now help make this happen,” says Harun Muharemovic, chair of the Culture, Sports, and Leisure Committee.
Brøndby Cooking School is partially funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Nemlig.com supplies the ingredients, and Semler provides financial support in the form of grants per course. Brøndby Municipality supports the initiative by participating in the project and through its climate plan and the vision outlined in the Brøndby 2030 strategy.

The Food School is the latest addition to Det Længste Bord, a two-year initiative that aims to elevate Brøndby’s food culture through meals, communal dining, and local food communities. The project is run by the Democracy x Foundation in collaboration with Claus Meyer, Meyers Madhus, the Municipality of Brøndby, and the University of Exeter.
The Cooking School puts the project’s ambitions into practice by providing residents with practical tools, inspiration, and a sense of community around cooking. By making it easier and more fun to cook at home every day, the Cooking School helps elevate Brøndby’s food culture.
